In addition to Fashion week, another event puts Milan at the center of the world: the Salone del Mobile, which is taking place at the moment. A unique event, which I find fascinating because it pervades the entire city and transforms it, with exhibits, installations, parties and workshops organised by the Fuorisalone. For a few days, Milan will light up with design, becoming an international meeting point and generating a boundless display of creativity, art and ideas.
I’ve had a glance at this year’s programme, which as always is rich and stimulating. It ranges from a show dubbed Simple, the first Italian solo show of promising Canadian designer Philippe Malouin, to Ready To Cloud, an interactive performance on cloud computing, the new reality for sharing over the internet. With a touch of pride, I would also like to mention the Stock Collection by Giorgia Zanellato, a scholarship holder at Fabrica, who is exhibiting her personal collection of decorative objects obtained through an unusual pairing of Plexiglas and marble, at the Galleria Luisa delle Piane.
The project which is closest to my heart, however, is the one created by Fabrica: at Villa Necchi Campiglio, the exhibit Belvedere – Viaggi nei Beni del Fai will be inaugurated today, showcasing various objects designed by our young talents. After having visited ten (very beautiful!) sites protected by the Fondo Ambientale Italiano [Italian National Trust] these young creators translated the spirit of what they experienced into design objects. Don’t miss it.
